The Local Vicar - Episode 69

Upon seeing this photograph for the first time, Paul realises he’s entered the Cary Grant / Gregory Peck phase of his life. Old Mrs Dixon at the fish shop often makes this comparison, though as Gaynor pointed out, she’s just taking the piss especially about his toupee. He’s made a mental note to tell Blanche and Joy who run the Spastic Shop, to let him know if any linen suits arrive in stock, so he can carry off that dignified, Atticus Finch look, so wonderfully portrayed by Peck in ‘To kill a Mockingbird’. He’s also borrowed a DVD of ‘Roman Holiday’ and asks Gaynor if she fancies watching it with him, thinking she might enjoy Audrey Hepburn’s costumes in the movie. Initially she agrees, though during the opening credits she exclaims ‘Pfffff! BLACK AND WHITE!’ and turns away to play Minecraft on one of the many portable devices Pixie Lott’s left at the house. Later he notices she’s googled ‘who’s Rita Tushingham?’.
