The Local Vicar - Episode 50
It’s Monday and Paul’s been rehearsing for the local amateur dramatic production of ‘A Midsummers Night Dream’. He’s taken on the role of ‘Oberon, King of Fairies’ a role he’ll enjoy with it’s long monologue. The local vicar however, finds it all too amusing and collapses in hysterics whenever ‘Fairy King’ is mentioned in conjunction with Paul’s name. Paul really wants Gaynor to play the part of ‘Puck’ because of her natural impish mischief, but Pixie Lott’s told her ‘He’s having a laugh like init, there’s no way’s there’s some fella in a proper book like, that’s called ‘Puck’ init.’ The production seems doomed, there’s simply not enough actors to fill the roles, even with most of the cast doubling up. The Bishop intervenes, he can’t afford to lose the income the am-dramers bring to the Church Hall, that’s his holiday spends! So he orders the vicar to volunteer post haste for ‘the sake of the community’. Paul smugly informs the vicar that he has the perfect role for him, it’s the part of a weaver who provides comic relief throughout the play..........’It’s Bottom isn’t it?’ slouches the vicar...Paul, Gaynor and Pixie pee themselves laughing. Ed Sheeran who’s always slow on the uptake suggests ‘is this one of those poetic justice moments?’ reaching for his notebook.
